In this second episode of LET’S GET PHYSICAL MEDIA to drop in one day (January 3, 2021), co-hosts, Robert Meyer Burnett (in Hollywood) and Dieter Bastian (all the way from Saarbrücken, Deutschland), talk about physical media releases coming out in 2021 and the challenges posed by Britain’s exit from the European Union (a/k/a BREXIT).
Our two favorite physical media junkies, separated by an ocean, share their mutual love of movies, special editions and obscure cult films.
Stay safe everyone and we’ll see you next time!
Good Evening Gentlemen,
Covid cases here in Ireland have skyrocketed over the holidays and the government decided to go back to Stage 5 restrictions till the end of January. So the wife and I decided to rent a Zip Car and visit all the local charity shops and the big used book store in town to see what treasures we could find before being stuck at home for another month. It turned out to be a very successful trip so I decided to write in and gloat on two purchases I made made on this outing.
While browsing through used bookstore I saw a huge DVD box set sitting on one of the counters. Intrigued I walked up to investigate and it turned out to be the Farscape Ultimate Edition box set. Upon further investigation I found all 42 discs to be in mint condition. They were selling the entire set for 30 euro, practically a steal. I proceeded to tuck the box under my arm and march to the cash register a happy man.
We later went to one of the many charity shops in Dublin and in the window I saw the Miami Vice Definitive collection for 20 euro. Now if that isn’t the universe sending you a message then I don’t what is. I entered the store, walked up to the register, and demanded to purchase the set. The poor lady at the register quickly grabbed the set from the window (probably to get this crazy yank out of her store) and let me inspect the discs. I was pleased to find that all of the discs where also in mint condition. I of course purchased the box set and left the store with a big smile on my face.
It seems the Gods of physical media looked favorably on me that day.
Sincerely,
Kevin Morthorst
