Imagination Connoisseur, Douglas Root, wants to know why movie studios can’t distribute their own films.

Hi Robert,

Been enjoying your afternoon live streams for a while now. Since you mentioned that you enjoy answering questions about the film business, I have a question. Can you explain the business model (revenue share) for distributors, why can’t studios distribute on their own?

Is there usually more than one distributor involved in a film release? Do they compete for those rights and what other options are involved? Additionally where do movie theaters sit in on this business model?

Thanks so much for your insight!!
