Imagination Connoisseur, Satanico Magnifico, shares a story about how STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS is introducing a new generation of viewer to the Star Trek franchise – and that may make it worth a second look.

Whilst everyone on Youtube is in a hurry to declare STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS (ST:LD) (imdb) to be D.O.A. because of a low Rotten Tomatoes score, and a lack of international distribution, I decided, instead, to run a little experiment. A bit of do-it-yourself marketing research. The result of that experiment was not at all what I anticipated, but I consider it a newsworthy finding, for those of us who would like to see Star Trek grow and reach the youth of today.

In brief, I hauled in one of my young coworkers who had zero interest or knowledge of Star Trek outside of Picard Facepalm memes, who was instead a Rick and Morty fan. I thought he would find it unfunny and incomprehensible due to the heavy referencing to Star Trek lore.

I was very wrong.

He liked it so much that I was able to get him to then sit and watch the classic ST:TNG episode, Measure of a Man, which he went on to… well, you can watch the interview footage here:

Youtube’s Trek community is literally throwing the baby out with the bathwater by rejecting this series reflexively.

Now that’s the Power of Math, people!
