On one day in May in 1977, the galaxy changed forever. And all thanks to a farm boy, a scoundrel, and a princess.

STAR WARS a.k.a. STAR WARS EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE (1977)

When it made its debut in 1977, STAR WARS did more than fundamentally change the way the world would see fantasy and science fiction, it changed the very DNA of the entertainment business and the focus of Hollywood filmmakers from telling deep, meaningful stories to sprawling, effects-laden event films with worldwide appeal.

Here’s a quick summary:

Luke Skywalker joins forces with a Jedi Knight, a cocky pilot, a Wookiee and two droids to save the galaxy from the Empire’s world-destroying battle station, while also attempting to rescue Princess Leia from the mysterious Darth Vader.

This is the original film that spawned eight, direct sequels, two additional “saga” films, animated and live action TV series, video games, comics, novels, artwork, toys and other merchandise … and who can forget the Christmas Special? (We had to mention it, sorry.)
