So, is this film about teen angst in the 1950s or a guy in a rubber suit who just can’t seem to get a date?

Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954)

While on the surface, THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON may look like a 50s cheese-fest featuring a man in a rubber monster suit, there’s actually something quaint about its sensibilities. The film opened the door for two more sequels featuring the “gill-man” and should be considered “must see” for those intrigued by pulpy, mid-century sci-fi and horror films.

Here’s a quick summary:

A strange prehistoric beast lurks in the depths of the Amazonian jungle. A group of scientists try to capture the animal and bring it back to civilization for study.
